A Central Washington University Dean Receives Award from Students

Ellensburg, Wash. — The award has only been given five times in the past 20 years.

Richard DeShieldsEllensburg, Wash. — Richard DeShields, Central Washington University’s Associate Dean of Student Living, received the Ken Stoner Distinguished Service Award presented at the National Association of College and University Residence Halls’ (NACURH) annual conference, which was held June 1 to June 4 at the University of Colorado, Boulder.

The award, named after Dr. Ken Stoner, past NACURH president and past NACURH advisor, recognizes distinguished service and dedication to the NACURH organization. The award is not given annually but is presented only occasionally. Since it was established 20 years ago, DeShields is the fifth recipient of the award.

NACURH is a student-run organization that brings together approximately 400 schools from the United States, Canada, Mexico, Australia and Qatar. NACURH promotes living on campus as an integral part of the college experience and provides resources to help member schools improve the residence hall environment and experience.
