626 beds of new housing will be added at the South Georgia school.
Albany, Ga. — Groundbreaking has occurred for a $23 million student housing complex on the campus of Albany State University in Albany. The 626-bed project will be situated on the main loop of University Drive near the school’s main administrative building. It will consist of a 400-bed residence hall for freshmen and a 226-bed hall for upperclassmen.
Common amenities will include spacious lobbies, multipurpose rooms, business centers and a Pizza Hut Express restaurant. The complex will also contain an academic component, which includes a dance studio as well as a theater that can be utilized for movies, lectures and theatrical productions. The buildings and surrounding courtyards will also feature wireless Internet access.
The project team includes architects Lord, Aeck & Sargent Architecture and Chasm Architecture. Juneau Construction is the general contractor, and Jones Lang LaSalle and Clement & Wynn will manage the project.
Completion is slated for August 2011.
