The new on-campus project will feature several green elements.

Santa Clara, Calif. — Construction is underway for a new on-campus student housing project at Santa Clara University. The new residence hall will be located at 1260 Campbell Ave., adjacent to Stephen Scott Stadium. It will contain 400 beds in a mix of one- through four-bedroom units that will be occupied by upperclassmen. The project will contain a 4,500-square-foot student services center that will feature a multipurpose event room and a kitchen. The project will also contain abundant outdoor space that will include two volleyball courts, a bocce ball court, outdoor kitchen and barbecue areas, seating areas and plazas.

The outdoor space is one of the components of the project’s commitment to sustainability. The interior of the building will contain Energy Star-rated lighting and windows, high-efficiency fixtures, low-VOC interior materials, bicycle storage and the use of recycled building materials.  The project is being designed to the standards of Build It Green, a nonprofit organization that promotes sustainable building in California. The project is part of Santa Clara University’s efforts to achieve climate neutrality by 2015.

Cupertino, Calif.-based The Sobrato Organization is developing the project in partnership with the university. The project architect is Irvine, Calif.-based KTGY Group.
