Bradford, U.K.
— The Hayaat Group has sold The Green, a 1,026-bed low-energy-consumption student housing building at the University of Bradford in northeast England, to a private Kuwait based fund for more than £40 million (approximately $61 million). The Hayaat Group is a private investment company headquartered in Abu Dhabi that was the lead investor in this project. The facility is part of the £750 million investment to redevelop a learning quarter of housing, retail, public spaces and classrooms that includes a £150 million Sustainable Student Village, of which The Green formed the first phase. The Green was completed in 2011, and was built with a few additional sources of capital during the recession including contributions from Welbeck Land (the development arm of Howard de Walden estate) and a sum from the public sector. The Hayaat Group says it achieved a 170 percent return on the investment.
