Storrs, Conn. — KBE Building Corp. has been awarded a construction contract to renovate the Israel Putnam Refectory Dining Hall and build a new residence hall at the University of Connecticut in Storrs.

KBE will serve as general contractor for the $12.6 million dining hall renovation, which includes a 42,000-square-foot renovation to the existing dining facility to accommodate 700 students; a full renovation of the existing server and seating area on the upper floor; conversion of lower level into additional seating and server; as well as installation of a new service elevator, tray return system and new furnishings throughout.

The dining hall was designed by Amenta Emma Architects and is scheduled for completion in summer 2016.

KBE is also leading the design-build team for the construction of the STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) residence hall currently underway on the Storrs campus.
