Durham, N.C. — North Carolina Central University (NCCU) has broken ground for the construction of a new $30 million residence hall that will be located at the corner of Alston Avenue and Lawson Street in Durham. Chidley North Residence Hall will be a four-story, 125,000-square-foot structure that will house 520 students in suite-style dorms. The building will also contain staff apartments, a multi-purpose classroom, a computer lab and offices. Completion is expected in May 2011. The dorm is one of three construction projects the school recently began. The other two include a new building for the nursing program and a parking deck with a ground-floor, mixed-use component.
