New Off-Campus Project Breaks Ground at USC

Suffolk Construction is building the project for ICON and Campus Acquisitions.

Los Angeles — The groundbreaking ceremony will be held tomorrow for a new off-campus student housing project adjacent to the campus of the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. Suffolk Construction is building The ICON Plaza at USC, a six-story building that will contain 56 apartment-style units over street-level retail space and three levels of below-grade parking. The project is located at the corner of Figueroa Street and Expedition Boulevard. Its developers are Los Angeles-based The ICON Company and Chicago-based Campus Acquisitions. The construction timetable was not released.

This project marks the 16th student housing community built by Suffolk. In addition the company is currently building the New Library Learning Resource Center for Los Angeles Trade Tech College, which is located near the site of the new student housing community.

ICON is currently developing three additional student housing projects at California universities. They include The ICON at UCSB and Icon Gardens, which are located near the campus of the University of California – Santa Barbara in Isla Vista, as well as The ICON at SLO, which is located near California Polytechnic Unviersity in San Luis Obispo.
