Miami — The pedestrian bridge set to connect University Bridge Residences — a student housing development currently underway by a joint venture including University Developments — to Florida International University in Miami collapsed Thursday afternoon killing at least six, according to reports by CNN.
Miami-Dade police spokesman, Alvaro Zabaleta, reported to CNN that of the six people who died in the accident, five bodies were still under the bridge wreckage this morning. Recovery workers expect to find more bodies as debris is removed from the scene, according to Miami-Dade Police Director Juan Perez. The university’s President, Mark Rosenberg, said FIU followed required processes during the bridge’s construction and all contractors were certified by the state. Student Housing Business will continue to report on the accident, as news is made available.
