The public/private project will consist of 400 beds catering to upperclassmen and grad students.

Burlington, Vt. — Burlington-based Redstone Commercial Group is partnering with the University of Vermont to develop approximately 400 beds of new student housing. The project  will be located at the school’s main campus in between the Redstone Campus and the Gutterson Athletic Complex. Two connected buildings totaling four and five stories will be constructed. The residence hall will contain studio through four-bedroom units in an apartment-style layout. It will apply for LEED-Silver certification.

The new project, which is currently called Redstone 2, will serve upperclassmen and graduate students. The university is ground leasing the land to Redstone, which will develop and operate the community upon its completion. With this strategy, the university will alleviate a shortage of available student housing while not incurring any additional cost, as Redstone will take on the development costs and subsequent income from the community. Redstone is currently in the design phases for the project. It anticipates breaking ground next spring, with completion to follow in August 2012.
