Paul Smiths, N.Y. — Natural building materials and unobscured sitelines were priorities.

Paul Smiths, N.Y. — Overlook Hall at Paul Smith’s College has achieved LEED-NC Silver. The team on the 34,000-square-foot hall with 23 four-bedroom apartments includes HCP Architects and BBL Campus Facilities. Limited site disturbance was one of the priorities for the college on this second phase of its housing overhaul. Paul Smith’s is located in the Adirondack State Park and was built on land bequested by Phelps Smith, the son of Paul Smith, who owned a popular hotel and resort in the area that burned down in 1930. The hall incorporates local indigenous fieldstone wrapping the perimeter of building elevations as well as Douglas fir timber accent framing.
