SHB Webinar: Evidence-Based Tips for Creating Healthier, Safer Student Residences

by Katie Sloan

On June 17, Student Housing Business hosted a webinar titled “Evidence-Based Ways to Make Student Housing Healthier and Safer Post-COVID-19: A Fireside Chat with Paul Scialla of Delos.” This in-depth discussion centered on COVID-19 and how to promote wellness and comfort in student housing.

As students return to campus for in-person classes this fall, there is greater demand than ever for buildings that promote indoor health and safety. As Scialla explains, “The simple fact is that what surrounds us matters. What we touch matters. What we breathe matters. How we congregate matters.” Methods for promoting indoor building health have never been more important.

Topics discussed by Scialla and SHB include upgrading student housing units and installing systems before students return, health safety rating programs and seals in student housing, a “zero capital expenditure” model for upgrading indoor air quality and purification, and promoting health in the indoor environment.
