DeLand, Fla. — Starting this fall, Stetson University will allow residents of Nemec Hall to have pets. Thirty-six of the rooms will be friendly; residents will be limited to one pet each, and dogs must be less than 30 pounds. In addition, a dog park is being constructed outside of the dorm.

Stetson President Wendy Libby said in a statement that allowing students to have pets will help ease the transition into college life and provide a distraction from academic pressures. Libby instituted a similar policy at Stephens College in Missouri, where she served as president before coming to Stetson.
