Syracuse, N.Y. — University Village Apartments on Colvin, a 432-bed community located on the campus of Syracuse University, has received LEED for Homes – Gold certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. While the building was being constructed, the use of local and recycled materials was encouraged, and a waste diversion program was put in place that accounted for a 40 percent reduction in construction waste. The completed buildings use 25 to 30 percent less energy than similarly constructed structures, and each unit has low-flow fixtures and Energy Star appliances. The exterior of the community also uses native and drought-resistent landscaping.

University Village Apartments was completed in 2009. A public-private project between the university and Education Realty Trust, the community comprises five buildings with two- and four-bedroom units as well as a clubhouse/student activity center. The project architect was Holmes • King • Kallquist & Associates. The community is fully pre-leased for the upcoming school year.
