At April’s InterFace Student Housing Conference, a panel gathered to discuss the most popular trend in student housing development — urban communities. In town, close to campus, and truly walkable define the most sought-after projects these days.
Tallahassee — Catalyst includes apartments and shops and is walking distance to FSU.
Tuscaloosa, Ala. — Green Bear Lofts will bring retail and 115 beds to downtown Tuscaloosa. Rents will start in the low $700s per month, and the units will be among the city’s highest-end student housing offerings.
Philadelphia — The development in the University City area, where Campus Crest recently announced a project, will open in the fall.
Athens, Ga. — Loft and townhome syle community opens this summer.
Atlanta — Student housing is included in the company’s latest transactions, as well as in its new focus.
Oxford, Miss. — A blend of retail and amenities is expected to set the development apart.
Tallahassee, Fla. — The $25 million project is part of a redevelopment initiative with the city of Tallahassee.
The developer will build two new projects near the school and add a new phase to another.
