Kingston, R.I. — The University of Rhode Island has entered into a public-private partnership with Gilbane Development Co. for the construction of 1,100 beds on the university’s Kingston campus. The project is currently in the feasibility study phase with construction expected to begin in fall 2025. Plans for the development include several new residence hall buildings offering apartment-style units. The communities will serve both undergraduate and graduate students, with initial occupancy expected to begin in fall 2027. “We know many of our students want to live on campus and value the many benefits of on-campus living, including convenient access to campus resources and amenities,” says Ellen Reynolds, vice president for student affairs. “We are excited to move these plans forward and to offer additional and enhanced on-campus living opportunities for our students.” The residence hall project is part of the university’s larger strategic plan, Focus URI, which will include the creation of additional new facilities as well as expanded recreational space.
