El Paso, Texas — The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) has held the grand opening ceremony for Miner Heights, its newest on-campus student housing community. Construction consisted of the $6.5 million renovation of apartments that were originally built in the 1960s. The buildings, which are located at 300 W. Schuster Ave., have be renamed after the area’s native plants. They are now known as Ocotillo Hall, Mesquite Hall and Cottonwood Hall. The community offers one- and two-bedroom apartments up to 950 square feet in size. Miner Heights will be open to residents August 20. The new community adds to on-campus housing that already includes the 428-bed Miner Village community.
