Thomas Keenan, who helped many off-campus student housing developers locate sites throughout the country, passed away on September 15, 2016, after battling cancer.
Tom Keenan served as president of Phoenix-based Keenan & Company, which he operated with his sons, Kevin Keenan and Ryan Dyer, and daughter, Shawn Ducusin. Many clients in the student housing business regarded his site selection capabilities second-to-none in the industry.
Among Keenan & Company’s student housing clients are Capstone Collegiate Communities, Landmark Properties, CA Ventures, Gilbane Development and Texla Housing Partners. The firm’s capabilities reach well beyond student housing, to restaurants, mixed-use, retail and theater properties.
“Tom was a one of a kind individual and arguably the best land guy in our business without a doubt,” said Roger Phillips, CEO of Texla Housing Partners.
Keenan is survived by his wife, Cheryl Ballard-Dyer Keenan, four children, eight grandchildren, three brothers and a sister, as well as many friends in the student housing industry.
