Kalamazoo, Mich. — Western Michigan University has selected Gilbane Development Co. as the developer of its planned on-campus mixed-use district in Kalamazoo. The project — titled The Hilltop Village — will reimagine the southern portion of the university’s campus and include student housing, academic support spaces, office and research space, retail, entertainment, a hotel and conference space and multifamily housing. Public-Private Partnership to Develop $300 Million University of Michigan Research Center in Downtown Detroit
Detroit — A public-private partnership has unveiled plans for a $300 million, 190,000-square-foot research and education center in downtown Detroit that the University of Michigan (U-M) will occupy and operate. Kohn Pedersen Fox designed the building that will anchor the 14-acre Detroit Center for Innovation (DCI). The research building is expected to eventually serve 1,000 graduate and senior-level undergraduate students pursuing advanced degrees in a range of high-tech innovation disciplines, including mobility, artificial intelligence, data science, entrepreneurship, sustainability, cybersecurity and financial technology. Ann Arbor, Mich. — Landmark Properties has acquired two student housing communities located near the University of Michigan campus in Ann Arbor. Acquisitions include the 248-bed Zaragon Place and the 198-bed Zaragon West. Both properties were built by Chicago-based development company Zaragon Inc. Landmark is set to implement a capital improvements program on both properties, which will include upgrades to unit interiors and common areas. EdR, Northern Michigan University Open First Phase of $75.4 Million On-Campus Housing Development
Marquette, Mich. — A public-private partnership between EdR (NYSE: EDR) and Northern Michigan University has opened The Woods, a 417-bed living-learning community located on the university’s campus in Marquette. The property is the first phase of a $75.4 million, 1,229-bed development scheduled for full delivery in 2018.
